How to play Blip Box

  1. 1Tap letters (or type) to make a word. Two letters in a row can't come from the same side.
  2. 2Press Enter. Your next word starts with the last letter of the one before.
  3. 3Use all 12 letters. Two words is a Perfect.

How to play Blip Box

  1. Twelve letters sit around a box, three on each side.
  2. Make words of three letters or more by tapping letters or typing them. Two letters in a row can't come from the same side.
  3. Each new word starts with the last letter of the word before it, so your words form one chain.
  4. Use every letter at least once. Letters can be used again.

Two words is a Perfect, three is Great, four or five is Solved. Delete steps back through your chain, and Restart clears the box but keeps any nudges you've used.

Tips for fewer words

  • Start with the awkward letters. Spend your first word on the hardest letters to place (J, Q, X, Z, V, K, W). Common ones like E, S and T will fit almost anywhere later.
  • Think about the hand-off. A word ending in a letter that starts many words (S, T, D, E, R) gives the next word room. Ending on X or Q boxes you in.
  • Long words do the work. A seven-to-nine-letter word that zigzags across the box often covers eight or more letters on its own.
  • Count what's left. Once a word lands, look only at the unused letters and the letter you must start with. That is the whole puzzle now.
  • Watch the sides for endings. -ING only works if I, N and G are on three different sides, and -ED needs E and D apart. Check before you chase one.
  • Take one nudge, not three. The first nudge only tells you where Blip's chain starts. It is often enough.

Daily, practice and duels

The daily box is the same for everyone and changes at midnight. Monday and Tuesday boxes are easy, the midweek ones medium, and Friday and Saturday hard. Solve it to grow your streak.

Practice builds a fresh box at the level you pick, as often as you like. Finish one and send it to a friend with Challenge a friend: they get the same box and see how many words you needed.

Also playing Letter Boxed?

Blip Box works like The New York Times' Letter Boxed, with its own puzzles and an unlimited practice mode. Stuck on today's NYT puzzle? Today's Letter Boxed hints give three nudges before the answer. Questions

Is Blip Box free?

Yes. No account, no download, no limit on practice boxes. Your progress stays in your own browser.

Which words count?

Everyday English words of three letters or more, from the open SCOWL word list (about 76,000 words). Names, abbreviations and hyphenated words are not in it, and we leave out slurs and crude words.

When is there a new box?

Every day at midnight, your local time. The daily box is the same for everyone, so you can compare scores with friends.

What is a perfect score?

Two words. Every daily box has at least one two-word solution made of common words, and Blip shows its own after you finish.

Can I play more than one a day?

Yes. Practice mode builds a new box whenever you like, at the level you pick, and you can send any practice box to a friend as a challenge.

Is this the New York Times game?

No. Blip Box is HintPulse's own game, with its own word list and puzzles. It uses the same idea as Letter Boxed: letters on the sides of a square, linked into a chain of words.
